Buddhas of Bamiyan

The Buddhas of Bamiyan were two giant 6th-century statues carved into the cliffs of central Afghanistan’s Bamiyan Valley. Although destroyed in 2001, the massive niches and surrounding cave complexes remain a powerful symbol of the region’s ancient Silk Road history. Today, visitors can walk through the valley, explore the monk caves, and enjoy stunning mountain views that reflect Afghanistan’s rich cultural past.
