Band-e Amir National Park is one of the most beautiful natural places in Afghanistan, located in Bamyan Province. The park is famous for its chain of six deep-blue lakes, surrounded by high mountains and natural travertine (mineral) walls that have formed over thousands of years. These minerals give the lakes their bright blue color, making Band-e Amir look like a hidden paradise in the middle of the desert mountains.
Visitors can walk along the lakes, enjoy stunning viewpoints, take photos, or relax for a quiet picnic by the water. During the busy season, simple paddle boats may also be available at some lakes. Most travelers visit Band-e Amir as a half-day or full-day trip from Bamyan city.
The park is about 1–3 hours from Bamyan by car, depending on the road conditions. Because the area is high — around 3,000 meters — the weather can be cool even in summer, and winters are very cold with heavy snow. The best time to visit is from late spring to early autumn. It’s also important to check current travel conditions and use trusted local drivers or guides.
Band-e Amir is Afghanistan’s first national park, and local communities help protect the area. Visitors can support them by respecting local customs, keeping the environment clean, and buying services from local guides.
